About Us

Green Transition Observatory (KHAS_GTO)

The Green Transition Observatory is a collective group of academicians, independent researchers from both civil society and public institutions, and professionals who combine their efforts in observing, understanding, and affecting the global contours of transition towards sustainable development and the mitigation of climate change.

The Observatory is motivated in response to the observation that the ecological and climate crisis is deepening despite efforts and rhetoric on immediate action. A recent Report published by the IPCC, for instance, cautions that global warming is likely to reach 1.5°C between 2030 and 2052 if it continues to increase at the current rate (IPCC, 2019). The Report reveals that limiting global warming to the 1.5°C target is still possible, but that it will require “deep reductions in emissions” and “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society.”

Time is running out – action must be immediate! The climate crisis is not a distant threat; it is a present reality demanding urgent action. Now is the time to unite across disciplines and borders to forge a sustainable path forward. Our collective future hinges on the choices we make today.

In this line, the Observatory aims at enhancing cooperation and transfer of knowledge across sectors and diverse disciplines to increase their R&I capacities and to improve their innovative collaboration through alternative synergies. This includes networking activities, organization of workshops, seminars, and conferences, and various modes of dissemination to facilitate the sharing of knowledge with the global society at large. By fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue and promoting inclusive participation, the Observatory aspires to be a catalyst for impactful change in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
