TÜBİTAK 3501 Project No: 125K021 “Food Security in Western Anatolia: Problems, Patterns and Macro Lessons to be Derived”

Project Leader:  Coşku Çelik, Kadir Has

Project Researchers: Elif Karaçimen, RTE University; Hasan Tekgüç, Kadir Has

Project Asistants:

This TÜBİTAK‐funded project examines the links between food security and agricultural production in rural Turkey, focusing on households that are both food producers and consumers. Through mixed qualitative and quantitative research in Western Anatolia, it explores how rising production costs, food inflation, and shifting agricultural structures affect rural livelihoods, labor markets, and gendered labour roles. By situating Turkey’s experience within global food-system transformations, the project aims to generate evidence-based insights to strengthen rural resilience and ensure equitable access to healthy and sufficient food.

Keywords: political economy of food, rural development, agrarian change, women’s labor, Western Anatolia
